Gopika began to practice Mohiniyattam at the age of 10.Later, she specialised the art form under Kalyani Kuttyamma and her daughter Sreedevi Rajan. Gopika Varma studied Bharatanatyam for 14years. Gopika Varma learned Abhinaya, the essence of Mohiniyattam, from Sri. Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair, the doyen of Kathakali. She gathered knowledge and professional training in the "Sopana” from Sri. Kavalam Narayana Paniker, a veteran in Indian theatrics. She is running a Mohiniyattam school named "Dasyam" at Chennai.
